TOO MANY SHOWS

A HEAVY BURDEN

OnceTt manufacturer supports a small show by staging an exhibit lie has to continue to exhibit at other shows to maintain In’s good name, according to one speaker at the meeting last night of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association.

Mr J. W. Collins, of the Department of Industries and Commerce, wrote that the Hawcrii Winter Show, to he hold from Juno 27 to July 4, would this year take the form of a British industries fair on a very comprehensive scale The department, had given its support, and now asked lor the support of the manufacturers.

Mr T. Somerville (president) said that the show was considered one of the best of its kind in the North Island, and several individual Dunedin manufacturers had made displays in Urn past. Mr J. Sutherland R ess said that there was a danger of manufacturers being burdened if they supported all the .small shows. If a manufacturer made a display at one show and did not support another, his name was held in hud odor.

Air Somerville instanced the displays made by agricultural implement dealers at the. country shows. The cost and trouble had been such a heavy burden on the implement makers that they had ultimately decided to stage exhibits onlv at the bigger shows. Mr J. Cuddy was of the opinion that it was a question for individual manufacturers.

On Mr Hogg's suggestion the association decided to reply that it did not feel justified in giving official support, hut recommended that, as the department had given official sunporl, the local industries officers in the various centres should interest themselves in obtaining the support of the individual manufacturers.
