BOYS' ASSOCIATION 'l’b© annual meeting of the Otago Boys’ Cricket Association, under new arrangements, making tbo season’s competition range from the end of tbo school 'vacations to December 111, was bold in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening. Delegates from the schools and clubs working under tbc rules of tbc Otago Boys’ Association wore present. Mr W. Rowlands occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the annual report, tbo Chairman commented favorably on the success of the previous short season, which was necessarily abbreviated to meet the new condition under which tbo association is in future going to work. In the course of his remarks he referred to the unsuitability of tbc surface of Bathgate Dark, which the association has been 11 liable to make use of owing lo its condition, and said that Montccillo Ground, if top-dressed earlier in the season, would afford the association at least three good wickets. Prospect Bark also would have been available for boys’ cricket had the grass been cut, and that altogether they bad to depend upon the Oval, the High School, and M‘Glasban to provide the necessary wickets—a state of affairs which .should not hold in a town where there are so many open spaces, lie congratulated the winners of the senior competition—the Christian Brothers and M'Glashan, who were bracketed as holders of tbo Hudson Shield—and also the Christian Brothers, who wore successful in retaining their hold on the Rotary Shield, Reference was made to the recent visit of the Canterbury boys, and their senior team was complimented on its success in beating the Otago team and retaining the New Zealand boys’ championship. He was pleased to be able to say, however, that the juniors gave a very meritorious performance in that they managed to retain the junior championship shield, when chances looked utterly hopeless. The association’s finances had suffered a severe strain owing to the expense of entertaining the Canterbury teams, but supporters of the association and its aims would soon make the deficiency good Mr T. O’Shea, in seconding the adoption of the report, added his congratulations on the annual report, and severely criticised the condition of the playing grounds for summer sport in Dunedin. He emphasised that it was necessary to get the grounds from the winter games associations in the middle of September in order to prepare them for the summer games. He suggested that a committee be set up to confer with the Otago Cricket Association with the object of _ approaching the City Council concerning this matter.
