RUGBY, February 7. (Received February 8, at 1.30 p.m.) Mr Winston Churchill stated that the total amount of gifts made by individuals to the Exchequer during and sinco the war was over £1,078,000. A gift of £120,000 to purchase war loans tor cancellation was made by “ F.S.T.” in 1919, this being 20 per cent of ins estate. It later became known that " F.S.T.’ ’ was Mr Baldwin, the present Prime Mi nister, then Financial Secretary to the Treasury.

Tho latest gift of half a million sterling, invested at 4J per cent, compound interest, would amount in BJU years to nearly £11,000,000.
