South Africa’s opening pair were confident. Taylor was polished and Coen impressive. The bowling and fielding were excellent, and compelled tho home team to abandon their forcing policy. Staples’s leg theory also kept down runs. Catterall and Cameron indulged in stonewalling tactics intent on wearing down the bowling. Later they scored freely and vigorously all round "the wicket. The partnership produced 135 runs in ninety-three minutes for the fifth wicket. Catterall hit two 6’s and fourteen 4’s. The batsmen were completely on top cf iHe tired bowling. Holmes went out to the last ball cf the first over.
