ISSUES FOR JANUARY Considering that January can be classed as a ‘‘near-holiday” month, the value" of building "permits issued by the city building surveyor (Mr Gough) is quite satisfactory. The total value is £80,407, as against £513,785 for the corresponding period of last year. Included in this month's list, however, is the contract (£27,000) for the extensive additions to the Empire Theatre. Among tho bigger contracts arc the following (builders being mentioned first); il.
