THIS MORNING'S WORK The shower of rain experienced in the. city last night was scarcely felt out at Wingatui, and had no effect on the tracks. The outside of the course proper, with the trestles uot as far out as is usually the case a couple of days prior to a meeting, and the plough track in excellent order, ivero available for this morning’s work, which was not ol n very interesting nature. The Canterbury and Southland horses which arrived overnight were out early, but were confined to light work.
Both Satrap a nit Money Order look well, and are (it. for their engagements on Thursday. Wayward, wiio only came off the train this morning, and Silver Paper were worked on the lead. Overland nad AVingatni were sent over ten furlongs on the eonrse proper, the former having slightly the best of it in 2min I7fsec. Rooster and Blank Duke revered two rounds at n steady pare on the same track. Pink Note’s work was confined to a couple of rounds’ steady exercise, on the plough track. He looks the picture of health.
Cartoon looks very well, and reeled off a couple of circuits attractively, running home over the last three on the course proper in 47 2-ssec. Atapo, Spearmaid, Brightmark, and Greonrloth wore worked separately on the plough, each being confined to steady pace work! , Lucy Locket easily beat Quickfonn over a mile run on the course proper in limn 52sec.
Bin Tin Tin, with bis trainer up, did a couple of rounds on the course proper at half-pace. This two-year-old appears to have grown since be raced hero in December, and is very well.
Set Sail and Brigbtling finished together at the end of seven furlongs on the plough in liuin 24 2-ssec. They ran the first three in 39sec. and the mare was going much the better of the pair at the finish. Good as Gold was anxious to increase the pace as she came down the straight. This marc has fully recovered from the effects of the accident she met with at Trentham last month, hut she has been set a big task in the Publican’s Handicap with 8.5. Rob was making a lot of noise when ho reached the end of four furlongs on the plough in /j2 2-ssec. but could have gone much faster had he been asked. Coastguard did two rounds of strong work on the plough track. Eliminator ran six furlongs alone on tho course proper, the last five in Imin 11 sec.
Receipt ran five furlongs on the plough, the last half-mile taking 53sec. Dumblane moved .attractively over half a mile, the last three furlongs of which took 40see
Corinthia was too good for Tardy over six furlongs, nm in I min 25sec on the course proper. First Lady, who started with him. being beaten off. Beauty Light, Hard Prince, and Kapuna jumped four flights of schooling hurdles well. The former was always in front, and just bent Hard Prince at the last hurdle.
The two-year-old Night March did the most attractive half-mile of the morning, running it in 50 2-sscc on tho plough, and alone. Tic was going very easily throughout, and is a, much improved youngster since tho December meeting. Scion and Karitane ran six furlongs in 1 min 22 2-sscc.
A large number of others, including several youngsters, were exercised during the morning. It has been decided to dispose of all the late Mr A B. Armour’s horses at 2.30 p.m. on Friday.
