Bowling Analysis.—Bisselt, two for 61; Hall, none for 48; Nnpen, five for S 3; Vincent, three for 63; Merkel, none for 3: Nicholson, none for 12. When stumps were drawn South Africa had lost no wickets for 6 (Taylor 3, Coen 2). Sutcliffe and Tyklesley played soundly, and were bright in patches, but excellent howling kept them on the defensive. The second wicket added 130. Hammond played freely and attractively.
