RURAL CREDITS

PERSONNEL OF BOARD ANNOUNCED

WELLINGTON, February 0, The Rrimo Minister (Mr J. Q. Coates] announces the personnel of the board to be set up under the Rural Intermediate Credit Act, 1927. The Act provides that the board shall consist of seven members, of whom the* Public Trustee, by virtue of his office, shall bo one, and of whom at least one of tho remaining members who shall have had practical experience of farming, shall bo appointed by the Governor-General, and shall hold office during his pleasure. Tito Public Trustee is to bo the principal executive member of the board, and in his capacity as such shall be called the Commissioner of Rural Intermediate Credits. His Excellency the Governor-General has appointed tho following six members:— Mr John Brown, of Lowcliil'e, Canterbury, farmer. Mr Thomas Eustace Corkill, of Wellington, retired banker. Mr James Jacob Esson, G.M.G., of Wellington, financial adviser to the New Zealand Government.

Air Norton Francis. C.M.G., of Christchurch, company director. Mr John Norman Massey, of Pnni, in the provincial district of Auckland, farmer.

Mr William Waddel, of Wellington, superintendent of tho State Advances Office.

The foregoing, together with Mr John William Macdonald, the Public Trustee of the dominion of New Zealand, are to constitute the board. ' In addition, the Governor-General has, under section 9 of tho Act, appointed Mr James Jacob Esson to he chairman of the board, to hold office during his pleasure. The first meeting of tho hoard is, under section 8 of the Act, to be held at a time and place to be appointed by the Minister. As soon as tho necessary preliminary work, winch it will be realised has been very heavy, has been completed in tho direction of bringing tho Act into operation and linking up tho machinery with the existing organisation of tho Public Trust Office, the Act will be launched and applications for loans will bo dealt with.
