With the Dunedin Cup Meeting only three days away a good ileal of interest is now being taken in the training operations at'Wingaini, and this morning both the outside of the track proper and the plough gallop wore in lirst- ' class order lor last work. The trestles were placed well out. and the track proper will he in excellent order lor racing on Thursday. Top-dressing and ■ manuring have provided a very fine sole of grass, and, though the ground is hard,'there is quite a good cushion of grass in the straight, and the rest ol the circuit has never been ■in better condition. D. Wilson's team worked early. Overhaul, idler covering hall a round at a strong pace, .sprinted home over the last four furlongs with a young one in oGsee. Black Duke ami Booster were companions over five Inrlongs in Imin G [ Bright Mark, who looks well, was too good for Apple Dighton over live furlongs, which tno!< Imin S 2-sscc. Cartoon and Belie ran over a mile and a-quarter on the track proper, the former going the bettor. They were not sent out against the watch, but ran at a strong pare throughout. Pink Note, who has lightened up a lot since the Wellington Cup, was sent nine furlongs. El Nido carrying him alone: the first part, and Eyed Ova over'the-last bit. Pink Note, who carried about his Cup weight, was always doing it well, and on a deep plough track covered the nine furlongs in 2min Usee, the first half taking 54sec, and the last mile in Imin 50scr. Set Sail and Lucy Docket were sent over a mile on the plough at strong pace, and the former moved very attractively, the last seven furlongs tailing Imin 42scc. Gioseler stated this morning that he would like to see a shower to lake (lie sting out of the going, and there was just a chance that Set Sail might not start in the big race. She moved and looks well, and appears to he thriving on the hard racing she lias had during the past six weeks. Coastguard, looks well, ami worked nicely this morning, lie has only got to jump well to have a good chance of catching one of the hurdle races at the meeting. Good as Gold moved quite soundly at three-quarter pace in a hurst dowrqtho straight, hub on paper this smart little, marc cannot have much chance in Thursday’s race. Antrim Boy and Martis sprinted over four furlongs along tlie hack on tho track proper, the last three taking 39 3-ssec. Receipt, heavily bandaged behind, worked soundly at three-quarter pace on the track proper. If this mare is right on the day she will mu well in the Publicans’ Handicap. Quickform, who was restricted to half to three-quarter pace, has improved a lot since she raced at the Vincent meeting, and she must be given a chance in the President’s Handicap on Thursday. Blue Dragoon made a lot of noise when he was working on the plough track at three-quarter pace. Tardy led Wine ’Tray over four furlongs in 53see on the course proper. Kapuua was too good for Beauty Light over six furlongs, which occupied Imin 20sec. Bright!ing was given long slow work on tho plough. Wingatui and Felony ran over nine furlongs on tho plough in 2inin 5 2-osce, tho last mile taking imin. 51 l-ssec. Karitanc and Scion, who looks very big and lusty, ran five furlongs in Imin 8 Msec, the last four of which took 5! B-Gscc. Rob, who was carrying nearly ]l.)»t, easily accounted for Ataboy over four furlongs on the plough in 50 l-osec. Jt is understood that Mr 11. A. Pierce, who does most of the handicapping for the Southland meetings, has boon asked to make the handicaps tor the second day of the meeting.
