The members of the Arbitration Court—His Honor Mr Justice Frazer (president), Messrs W. Scott, and A. Ji. Monteith (assessors) leave this evening for Invercargill, where the court will sit on Tuesday and AVodnesday. The Dunedin sitting will be resumed on Friday, and will continue all the following week.
Mr H. P. West, railways traffic manager at Dunedin, went off by the 11.34 Gain to-day, ('ailed to Wellington for a departmental conference, and is not expecting (o gel. back in much less than a fortnight. Mr W. F. White, assistant traffic manager, is meanwhile in charge here.
Sir John Roberts, Mr (J. W. Rattray, and Mr S. K. Sleigh left for Wellington this morning on Union Com.pany’s business. Mr G. R. Ritchie was to join them at Christchurch.
Mr 1C J. M‘La>rcn returned to Christchurch to-day after a visit to Dunedin. Mr Stuart Waddell was farewelled oo the Dunedin station this morning as lie loft for Napier. Mr W. A. Flavell, manager Westport Coal Company, is called to Wellington on business, and left this morning, expecting to be absent from Dunedin a few days. Mr A. C. Hanlon went to 'fiinaru to-day for court engagements. Mr W. H. Mackenzie, tramway manager, started for Auckland to-day on tramway alfairs. Air E. ii. Dull, of the Tourist Department, who was on duty at Dunedin during the holiday rush, is now on his way Pack to Wellington, having Jett to-day by the through express. Air H. D. .Skinner, who lias been pursuing research work in ethnology iu America, arrived back iu JJune'din on Saturday, Messrs A. Good ley ami R. Anuit travelled north on baturclay to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Grocers’ federation, of which Air Goodley is the president, and which is being held at Nelson this year. J ll connection with the recent examinations ol the Associated Hoard, Miss Anna Briasco lias been granted the special certilieato, having been successful in the entire course of the school and local centre examinations in violin.
Mr Bert '.fate arrived from the north on Saturday to make arrangements for the opening of the Cherniavsky Trioat llis Majesty’s Theatre on the Mstinst. At the meeting of bowlers held on .Saturday night to honor local winners at tiro recent association tournament the president (Air W. T. Henaghan) referred to the laot that a past member of the Caledonian Club, Mr James Veitch (now playing with West Harbor Club), had jusi lost his wife. The meeting stood as a mark of condolence with Mr Veitch.
Mr A. W. Lilly returned by the second express on Saturday, and resumed ins duties as organist at All Saints’ Church yesterday'. During his stay in Auckland lie played the church services at St. Sepulchre’s and St. Albans, Dominion road, and also gave two organ recitals which were largely attended.
