GARAGE AFIRE

£6,900 DAMAGE

INVERCARGILL, February 6,

At 2.30 this morning fire was discovered in the back portion of Russell’S Garage. The flames had a good bold when discovered by the caretaker, whose prompt action in calling the brigade and using a hose on the premises prevented the flames from spreading, the fire being confined to the part of the building used for storing spare parts and second-hand vehicles. Four cycles, twenty-three ears and trucks, and nine cases of motor accessories and pumps were more or less damaged. Approximately £4,000 damage was done to the stock and about £2,000 to the building. The cause of the outbreak is unknown.

The total insurances were £9,000 on building, cars £IO,OOO, and 1 general stock £B,4oo—all in the United Office.
