PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES
EVENING MEETING. ' Under the auspices of the Otago Athletic and Cycling Club an evening sports carnival is to be held at tjie Caledonian Grounds- on Wednesday evening next. The running events will consist of a 75yds, 120yds, and half-mile handicap, while the cyclists are well catered for by a mile, one and a-half miles, and two-mile handicaps, besides a one-mile pursuit race for local riders. A feature of the cycling events will be the appearance of Phil O'Shea and H. Gi Watson, both of Christchurch, and present New Zealand champions. Besides taking part in the oi)en events they will compete in a match race. Watson recently made a name for himself in Australia, and is to leave shortly for France, to take part in the greatest cycling event in the world—the Grand Prix. Phil O’Shea is well known to the Dunedin ■public, and at present is riding as well as ever, and provided sufficient funds cau be raised by his supporters in Christchurch he is to accompany Watson to France. .
