Kidson) supplied the following at noon to-day:—The indications are tor, variable and moderate breezes, south, easterly prevailing; weather cloudy t« overcast, mild and hazy conditions; barometer has a falling tendency; sea moderate, tides good. ARRlVED.—February 4, Hohndale, s.s. (8.10 a.m.), 681 tons* Williams, from Wellington. The Kahika is due here from Wek lington to-morrow, and sails on Monday with cargo for Napier and Gisborne via ports. The Kamona left Auckland last even, ing for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Kurow is expected to leave Auckland about the middle of next week with cargo for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. Tho Gale is due here to-morrow, and aftei unloading, will sail on Monday for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. , Tho Holmdale arrived early: this morning, and is scheduled to sail at noon on Monday for Oamaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Progress is due at Dunedin with cargo from her usual ports on February 13. • ■ . , . , ~ ~ The Waipiata, which had been held up since Thursday, owing to the crew refusing to work her, sailed yesterday afternoon for Oamaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton to complete loading for Wellington and Auckland. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company has received word that the Devon arrived at Newport News on January 29 from Antwerp, en route to Auckland with a cargo of basic slag.

PIAKO FOR NEW ZEALAND.' The Pinko is scheduled to leave NeW| York to-day with American cargo ton Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff.' ARAWA’S MOVEMENTS. Messrs Murray, Roberts,, and Ca'' advise that tho Shaw-Saviil steamer Arawa is expected to leave Lyttelton, on Monday for Dunedin. She should arrive on Tuesday, and after the remainder of her Glasgow and Liverpool cargo has been discharged, will, go to Bluff to commence Homeward loading* RECENT LAUNCHINGS. From the yards of Sir W. G. Arm* strong-Whitworth and Company, New-castle-on-Tyne, the motor vessel Belpamela, 340 ft in length over all, 32511 between perpendiculars, by 49ft in breadth moulded, by 23th Gin in depth moulded to upper dock, to carry about 4.325 tons deadweight on a draft of 19ft 9in, was launched on November 9. The owners are the A/S Rederiet Bolraoira, Oslo. She is specially designed for the carriage of locomotives. The Ayrshire Dockyard Company recently launched the steamer Baron Cochrane, 340 ft in length by 48ft Gin in breadth by 25ft Sin in depth, about 3,400 tons gross and to carry about 5,800 tons deadweight, was also launched on November 9. The owners are Messrs H. Hogarth and Sons, Glasgow. NGAKUTA RECOMMISSIONED. The Union Company’s chartered, steamer Ngakuta has been recommissioned at Newcastle. Captain W.' J. The Kanna was recently recommissioned at Auckland with Captain A. Reed in command. The following are his deck officers: —Chief, Mr H. living* ton; second, Mr N. H. Pearson; third, Mr R. Allison. Captain J. L. Brisco has resumed command of the Kaitangata, relieving Captain G. M. Ruxton, who is.awaiting instructions. Captain R. M. Kane is now in command of the Kartigi. Captain A. Murray has been appointed to command tho Kiwitea. Captain W. H. D. Gardner, late of the Waipori, is on holiday at Auckland. Captain A. W. Creese has been appointed to the Wairuna, relieving Captain J. Ryan, who is on holidays. Mr H. W. Jones is now second officer of the Waipiata, Mr R, D. Brebtier having been granted holidays. Mr E. J. Anderson has relieved Mr A. R. Nancarrow as second officer of tho Kakariki. Mr J. V. Brqadhouse has been appointed third officer of the Kartigi, and Mr C. G. Hill is proceeding: to Sydney to sit for his mate’s: ticket. 'Mr L. B. Thomas has relieved Mr A. G. Hardy as third officer of the Koaata. MATATUA AT SUVA ‘ Dalgety and 00. advise that the steamer Matatua, en route for -New Zealand, arrived at Suva yesterday. The vessel is due at Dunedin 5n February 11.
