GAELIC SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING There was a large gathering of members and friends of the Gaelic Society at its monthly meeting, held last evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Stuart street. The hall was filled to capacity, and the meeting was presided over by Chief W. H. M'Lood, _ supported by Chieftains Colin M’Kenzie, Thomas Ritchie, and George Munro. Before the programme was opened the Chief asked those present to stand in silence for one minute as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Earl Haig. Immediately after Piper Munro played the ‘ Flowers of the Forest.’ A short and instructive address by Dr Gordon Macdonald was a feature of the evening. He used for his subject ‘ Janies M'Pherson, the Translator of Ossian.’ Mr Peter Radie, the popular representative of the ‘ Scotsman,’ was also present, and was introduced to the audience by the chief. Mr Eadie, in a brief speech, thanked the chief and the members for their kindly reception. Ho delighted the audience with Ins humorous stories and “a little nonsense.” A popular programme was presented and won the hearty applause of all present. Among the items were Gaelic songs by Mr Angus M'LennaiT (‘Mo Run geal dileas ’ and ‘Eilean a Cheo ’); Mrs W. Mathiesom Gaelic songs (‘Fear a Chata’ and ‘An t-Eilcan Muileach ’); Mrs E. Sproul (‘Jessie’s Dream’ and ‘The Road to the Isles ’); Mr C. Majaur (Hail, Caledonia ’ and ‘ Hame o’ Mine ’); Mr T. Ritchie (‘ Bonnie Prince Charlie’). Misses 0. Allan, A. Agnew, and Bobs Tome gave an exposition of Highland dancing.
