HORSES FOR THE D.J.C. MEETING

(Special to the ‘ Stae.’]

CHRISTCHURCH, February 2. Nincompoop has freshened up since his return from Trentham. Ho may race well at Wingatui_ next week, though a mile and a-half in the Dunedin Cup may prove a trifle beyond him. It is probable that C. Emerson will ride him.

Thorndale is in fine fettle at present. The racing he has had this season has brought him on wonderfully, and he should play a leading part in the Dunedin Cup. Satrap looks in great fettle at present, and the manner in which he reeled off a mile this morning was very encouraging. D. Cotton will ride him in the Dunedin Cup, in which the Paladin three-year-old should show up prominently. According to present arrangements Arikiwai will he a starter in the Dunedin Cup, in which he will he ridden by W. Brown. Arikiwai has shown good form up to a mile, but this will be his first try at a mile and a-half. Money Order appears to have benefited from his racing at Trentham, and he looks in capital condition for his early engagements. He has a big weight in the Publicans’ Handicap at Dunedin, but he should keep his opponents very busy to shnke_ him off. The two-year-olds, Goblin Market and Full Feather, have come in for a lot of attention since they raced at Trentham. They will probably meet next week, in the Dunedin Champagne Stakes, and opinions are divided as to how they will fare. On his Trentham running" Goblin Market is entitled to he favorite, but it does not follow he will win.
