The Rev. J. E. Adams came from Wynd-' ham this morning to conduct the servioa at the funeral of Mr A. B. Armour. Mrs Frank Reading, daughter of Sir John Sinclair, left for Wellington this rooming. Mr G. A. Lcwin (town clerk) left for Roxburgh this morning on annual leave. Members of the Otago Bowling Club rolled up in force on Wednesday evening, to wish bon voyage to the popular secretary of the club (Mr J. A. M'Kinnon), who leaves for England next week with the New Zealand bowling team. The president (Mr J. L. Salmond), vice-president (Mr W. F. Sligo), and Mr C. R. Smith expressed the esteem in which Mr M'Kinnon is held by his follow members, and wished him an enjoyable trip. On behalf of .Use members the president presented to Mr M'Kinnon a solid leather suit case as a token of their appreciation. Mr M'Kinnon, who was received "with musical honors, thanked the members for their kindly expressions, and gave some interesting particulars of the forthcoming tour. The death occurred at Christchurch this morning of Mrs M. Hannan, widow of Mr Michael Hannan, formerly Crown Prosecutor at Grey mouth. The deceased lady a. notable worker during the Great War at the time, and influenza, epidemic. She is survived by her son, Mr J. W. Hannan, barrister and chairman of the Grey Hospital Board, and also five daughters.— Grcymouth Press Association telegram. A Sydney Press Association cablegram states that Mr F. Hickson has arrived from London en route .to the Central School. Nelson, where he will remain for twelve months under the Empire scheme (or the interchange of teachers. The mayor (Mr W. B. Taverner), Cr J. ~ilson, and the town clerk are recommended as the City Council’s delegates to the Municipal Conference, which opens at Nelson on. March 14. The resignation of Miss Isabella G. Forrest as female attendant at the Tepid Baths has been accepted with regret by the General Committee of the City Council. The annual conference of gas engineers will he held this year in Christchurch from February 15 to 18, and it has been agreed that Ci- W. A. Scott and the city gas engineer attend' on behalf of the Dunedin City Council. Sir Barrie Marschel, general manager Itt Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (New Zealand), Ltd., has arrived in Dunedin.
The following appointments to Otago schools have been made: —Richard A. D. Blick, head master, North-east Harbor; A. Borlhwick, sole teacher, Waipiata; Mrs V. M. Samson, sole teacher, Waitahuna West; Miss L. L Ayson, sole teacher, Manuka Creek; Miss G. Briscoe, first assistant, Stirling; Miss A. M. Hill, first assistant. Strath Taieri; Miss E. M. Manson, thirteenth assistant, cAersham. Tho kto Mrs Robert Loch head, who died at I’etone, Wellington, on December 23, was a very old resident of Otago. The deceased lady was born at North Taieri in the year 1854, and was tho second eldest daughter of the late Duncan Stewart, who arrived by the ship Ajax in the year 1849. While she was quite a child the family removed to Barewood Station, which Mr Stewart had taken up about that time, and after residing at Barewood for a number of years Mr Stewart returned to his farm at North Taieri,. whore Mrs Lochhead, then a . young girl, received her education at the local school, Mr G. B. Anderson being the teacher. The deceased lady resided on her father’s farm until the year 1379, when she was married to Hr Robert Lochhead, who was in business for a number of years in DuncJn. Mr and Mrs Lochhead lived at Mornington during the whole of their married life until about a year ago, when they removed to Petone. The late Mrs Lochhead was a most lovable woman, kind-hearted, and esteemed by all those who had th* pleasure of her acquaintance. She is sms vi\*ed by her husband and three sons, tw« of the sons being in business in Wellington, and one on the staff of Bing, Harria, and Co., Dunedin. New visitors to the Grand Hotel include Mr Jean Schmidt and Misses K. Davis and C. Schmidt (London), Mr H. C. Tyler (Sydney), Mrs Brady, Mr and Mrs Davies, Messrs E. R. Lough, J. E. and T. R. Raw, and Mr Francis Drake (Wellington). Recent arrivals to the Excelsior Hotel include Misses Abel (2), Mr Justice Frazer, Messrs W. M. Scott and J. A. Gilmour (Wellington), Mrs and Miss Burnett (Queenstown), Mr and Mrs Wilson (Stirling), Mia* Adarftt, Hx and Mrs Spears •
