CENTRAL FRUIT INDUSTRY.

TO TEE EDITOR.

Sir, —In reference to a statement made in an article published in your paper last evening, I wonder if the writer could verify the statement made that crate peaches were bought at 2RI per lb and retailed at 8d and lOd per lb. Some little regard should bo paid to truth. Choice quality peaches are bringing big prices in tho auction rooms even now, and this is the height of the season. Reilly and Co. received as high as 7d per lb on Monday for peaches which were obviously in indifferent order, and I myself paid 6d per lb for peaches yesterday, and out of a crate containing 36Ibs there was at least three or four , pounds ’waste. Peaches which are bought at 2RI are decidedly jam fruit, and poor fruit at that, and retailers are glad to quit them at 2s 9d and 3s per dozen lbs. Choice fruit always commands a decent price, and as for big profits made by fruiterers, has anyone ever heard of a wealthy fruiterer?—l am, etc..

Fruiterer . and Confectioner, February 2.
