PETROL STORAGE

HEW SCALE DF FEES New regulations under the Explosive and Dangerous Goods Amendment Act, 1920, provide for certain additions and alterations to the present regulations concerning transport of oil by tank wagon and drum, storage in underground tanks, petrol pumps, storage of fuel oil, and tho use of petroleum for dry cleaning and similar purposes, and amends the scale of fees chargeable for the issue of licenses under by-laws and regulations. It is recommended by the General Committee of the City Council that the city by-laws dealing with these matters be amended to bring the same into line with the Government regulations. Tho proposed now scale of fees will be as followsss up to 50 gallons, if kept for private use only, then £1 for 1 to 225 gallons, £2 for 226 to 1,000 gallons, £3 for 1,001 up to 2,000 gallons, £5 for 2,001 to 16,000 gallons, £lO for 16,001 to 250,000 gallons, and £ls for any quantity exceeding 250,000 gallons. It is noted that there is not much difference in the now scale up to 16,000 gallons, but beyond that amount the new rates provide for a considerably increased fee, with tho object of covering large storage (bulk tanks); 50 per cent, of tho fees collected are paid to the Government.
