SCOUT NOTES

The Scouts’ annual football tournament will be held this year at East Park on October 1. All teams arc to meet at St. ivilda car terminus at I. Scouters arc requested to forward the names of their teams to “Totem” for publication, as arranged at the Scouters’ meeting. The 4lh North Dunedin Troop held its weekly parade on Friday last in the George Street School Hall. After roll call the patrols, under their leaders, carried out their work for tho evening as follows: Seagulls, secondclass work; Bams, signalling; Foxes, ambulance work. All showed a very marked improvement in their work. A tug-of-war contest was carried out, and alter a strenuous tustle, was won by tho loam under Scouter Williams. The following members of the Parents’ Committee watched the boys at work: Mcsdamos Muntz, Fox, and Mr IT Murphy. Tho Ist Dunedin Hoslyn Troop of Boy Scouts paraded at the Coronation Hall, Maori Hill, on Friday night. After fall-in the tug-of-war teams put in a .short practice, while the remainder carried on with patrol work as follows; Hawkos, and Morse' signalling with Hags; Stags, trestle-building and knot-tying; Bell Birds, First Aid instruction, under Mr Crighton; Bams, judging weights and distances; Eagles, map-reading and conventional signs. The tug-of-war teams were picked as follows: No. 1 team—l 3, Kott (10.0), 11. Glasson (9.10), D. Smith (9.8), II- Harper (8.0), 11. Fimllayson (7.0), J. Campbell (G.l); aggregate, weight, 50st lllb. No. 2 team—G- King (10.10), A. MTherson (10.7), C. Bomerii (8.0), J. M'Mossan (7.1), V. Warren (0.8), C- Jackson (0.3); aggregate weight, 49st lib. No. 3 team—.l). Cornish (0.4), J. Saunders (6.2), 11. Hodgcrs (G.U), L. Blackic (5.8), II- Munro (5.7), I. George (5.5); aggregate weight, 34st 121 b. On Saturday a Soccer football practice was held, but the play did not reach a good standard, owing to the fact that all. the boys are llugby players. The team will appear in next week’s notes.
The 2nd Dunedin Mornington Troop paraded a, full muster on. Saturday night. The different patrols went thoroughly into signalling, ambulance, and pioneering. Several of the ladies of tho committee were present. Tho S.M. proposed Mr M’Donald lor the office of assistant scout master. The patrols arc taking a keen in their work, in view of the forthcoming competitions. They finished up with a round of games, and the usual Scout law.
There was a fair muster at the AVoodhaugh Troop _ headquarters on AVcdnesday night, nineteen boys being on parade. The evening was devoted to semaphore signalling, first aid, and games. The troop is urgently in need of a Scouter. A'olunteers from the Ist Dunedin Rovers are temporarily filling this position. During the evening Mosdnines Button, Ashton, Moss, and Messrs Moss and Martin showed their interest in the boys by watching them at work-
The.9th Dunedin f3loliu-ans) Troop paraded mi Wednesday evening. Tenderfoot mid second class work was practised. Three hoys passed their tenderfoot tests, while one boy was “ sworn in.” The troop’s ‘‘veil” was practised, The annnaj general meeting of the Troop Committee was afterwards held. The reading and confirming of the balance-sheet and a brief summary of the year’s work by the Scouter concluded the proceedings. It was arranged that a practice for the play, to he given at the troop’s concert and dance on October 12, be held on Saturday. The 10th Dunedin (Green Island) Troop had a good muster on Friday night, twenty-two being on parade. The work for the night was: Badgers, ambulance and semaphore; Panthers, ambulance and semaphore; Tigers and Buffaloes, pioneering (under TvJr 'fundsay). Tho troop _is still adding to tho collection of tinfoil. Mr Sloan, ol the committee, visited the troop. The parade of the Jst Dunedin Dovers was supplemented by the attendance of the pack at the Korth-east Valley Troop display on Thursday evening last, when several items were rendered by the Dovers, a dance being afterwards enjoyed. The Dovers are making _ lull vise of tho good weather during the weekends, good distances being covered on the- hikes. Tho Dambler’s badge should ho qualified for by quite a number, judging by the number out. Twentv-one Cubs answered tho rollcall of the Doslyn Panther Pack on Wednesday last. The work lor the evening was opened with a game ol “ Simon Says,” alter which the Sixers took charge and carried on with the work in their respective sixes. the hitler part of the evening was devoted to games, consisting ot “ V hip the Cat,” ‘‘ Balloon Ball,” and boxing. During the early part of (ho evening two new members were brought into the pack. The pack was also farmed with a visit from Mr Meggett, the troop secretary, who spoke a few words to the Cubs. ~ . „ , , , The Morninglon Wolf. Cubs had a very good muster at choir parade- last Wednesday. The sixers took charge for first star work, while the Cubber and assistants put several boys through their first star test. Alter a game and a sing-song tho boys repeated the emu promise and were dismissed. The weekly parade ol the I oit Chalmers Pack took place on Friday night in the Garrison Flail. There was a, good attendance of Cubs, who were fresh after their school vacation. J here were present several members of the committee, who watched tho work ot the pack and their cubby games with interest and amusement. Arrangements were made for an intersix competition and an outing for next Saturday.
