OTAGO TRAMPING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING Mr F. W. Clayton presided at the annual meeting of the Otago Tramping Club, which was held in the club rooms last night. Ju moving the adoption ol the report and balance-sheet, the Chairman said that the .season had been very success- s tub Tbo weather, on tbo whole, bad been very favorable, and the trips had been well patronised. The one to Palmerston, Dunback, Hampden, and across the Horse flanges took place on Labor Day. The party, which consisted of eighteen members, was delighted with the trip. A pleasant Christmas holiday bad been spent in tbo Cecil Peak district, while another party had tramped up the Greenstone River ns far as tho Gertrude -Saddle., The invitation day was a successful innovation, and there had been a record attendance of fifty-eight Hampers at Wharc Flat and Leishman’s Waterfall. The Easter trip to Kaitangata and along the coast to Taicri Mouth and to Waihola had been very much enjoyed by a party of nine, and it was Imped that this trip would be* taken again in the future. A number of frequently-used tracks had been greatly improved during the year. The thanks of tho club were duo to those who had allowed their properties to be used and also to Messrs Gilmore Bros, for the use of their hut. Thanks were due to the Social Committee for tho enjoyable entertainments and also to several nonmembers who had given a good deal of help. Tho expenditure amounted to £33 Os sd, while there was a credit balance of £SB 11s 6d. The financial members numbered fifty-one women and forty-five men. In seconding tbo motion, Mr R. Gilkison congratulated the members on the satisfactory state of tho club’s affairs. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Mr Lumb made a suggestion that the Tours Commtitee should arrange shorter tramps for the benefit of tbo less-experienced members. The status of the club in Dunedin was not what it should be, and it behoved everyone to do his best to bring the club before the public. It was not compulsory for any member to turn out each week. Mr 0. Balk spoke of the necessity of improving old tracks and making new ones. Tho club should approach the authorities asking that scrub be cleaved on Signal Hill, with a view to forming a new track. This was ono of the most attractive walks about Dunedin, and tbo speaker suggested that the help of the City Council and the Amenities Society bo secured. Men on the unemployed list could be given work there, and it could be made one of the most attractive tracks in New Zealand.

Pearson; committee—Misses M. White and M. B. Pae, Messrs 11. Mamr and B. W. Hunter; Social Committee — Misses E. Arson and E. Harrison, Messrs L. J. Blackman, E. M'Bricle, and P. L. Ritchie; Tours Committee— Misses At. B. Rae and L. Tweedy and Messrs J. ,T. Kennedy and G. C. Arras and H. Alann.
As a recognition of the work carried out by the retiring secretary (Mr E. W. Hunter), an honorarium was granted to him.
