COMMEMORATIVE TREES
RAVENSBOORNE SCHOOL JUBILEE On Saturday afternoon llio planting; of two commemorative trees by two oi the oldest ex-scholars ami also the presentation to the school of ten enlarged photographs completed the llayenshonrne School jubilee Inactions. There were some seventy ex-selioiars and scholars assembled, and Air W. Connor presided. Mr Connor referred to the fact that that would lie the last public ceremony in connection with the jubilee. .He would like to bring before those present, ho said, a, scheme which the executive had in view to enable the oxscholars to provide a dux medal for all time. The balance in hand, alter paying all expenses, was in the vicinity or LTD, and this sum could he augmented if about eighty of the jubilee booklets which were at present unsold were disposed of. It was then proposed to invest the balance so that the interest would provide the medal. Before calling on Mrs (J. Randall and Mr J. Christensen, the two ex-scholars selected. to plant the. commemorative trees, Mr Connor asked Mr A. Jl. Williamson to present tho photographs. During an appropriate speech, Air Williamson expressed the hone that the photographs would still be hanging on tho wall when the time came to celebrate the centenary of the school, and that some of tho children would still he alive on that occasion. Mr W. J. Strong (head master), in accepting the photographs on behalf of tho school, said that they would ho hung in a prominent place in tho school, and he was sure that they would bo well eared lor as tho years rolled by. Air T. Rodger, a. member of the School Committee, who also spoke, said that the school would treasure Air Taylor’s gift. The ceremony of planting the trees then took place. Airs C. Randall (neo Toombs) planted a native beech to represent New Zealand, and Air Christensen planted a rowan tree to symbolise a tio with the HlomcJaiid. Roth expressed tho wish that tho trees would thrive and that they would bo well eared lor by tho present and luturo scholars of the school*
Mr Connor then called on all present to give cheers lor the two cx-scholars who had planted tho trees, and this ended an interesting ceremony.
