GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Messrs Donald Reid and Co., Ltd-, report; Oats.—Seed requirements represent practically ail the business passing. The recent bad weather has interfered considerably with wheat sowing, and several farmers will now have to abandon the idea of planting wheat and sow oats. This will help considerably in reducing linos of heavy grade oats. Merchants arc not at all interested in tbcTew oats offering from farmers, and the week's market closed with A' grade worth 2s 7d, B grade 2s 4d (sacks extra), on truck, country stations. » Wheat.—There is very little now loft in farmers’ hands, and the stocks held in store have also been reduced considerably. Millers, in the most cases, have sufficient on hand to carry them through the season. Few, if any, samples are offering, and the value of Tuscan remains the same to farmers—• viz., (3s on truck (sacks extra). Fowl wheat is selling at Cs (sd, ex store (sacks extra). Chaff—The local market is generally well supplied, and as shipping cannot ho undertaken at- present prices from this district, very little interest is being taken in the market by merchants. Feeders in the majority of eases will only have, prime quality, and prices for this grade range from £4 15s to £'s, ex truck (sacks extra). Medium is worth to £4 10s, ami inferior from £3 10s (sacks extra), ex store. Potatoes.- —The market has every appearance of improving, especially in lines of freshly-graded extra good quality. Very few are offering from local districts, the majority coming from northern merchants, and farmers best tables arc realising to £5 ss, ex truck (sacks in). Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ut., report as follows Oats.—According to reports from the Southland district there has been :: good quantity of oats shipped to Australia from the Bluff’. The inquiry is due, no doubt, to droughts still prevailing in some districts there. This demand has had little effect on the market here so far, hut there have been practically no growers’ lots offering, and those who have lines do not feel inclined to sell at current rales. Wo quote: A Gartens, 2s 7d ; B Gartons, 2« Id per bushel (on trucks, country stations). ’Wheat.—Almost all the wheat has now gone into millers’ hands, and < offerings on farmers’ account are negligible Prices are unchanged. Tuscan being worth Cs per bushel on trucks (connin' stations). Potatoes.—Supplies during the week have been light, and as there is a healthy tone in the market prices have firmed. Freshly-picked dines in sound condition are inquired for at up to £h 5s per ton. Lines showing signs v! disease or growth are saleable only at a considerably decreased figure.
Chair.—'The quantity coming; forwam is small, but is sufficient to meet tii-j demand, and as there is no shipping business being done local feeders indy am interested. It is quite evident that, should consignments increase, prices will decline, and to-day goon bright, well-cut lines are rcalising_ up to £5 per ton (sacks extra), with light and interior difficult to quit.
