From 242 ft to 2Coft the average value is 35s 3d per ton, but from this point onward tho value is low. A cross-cut is now in progress at 309 ft. Alarum, lode (north section); Tlie east drive has been advanced to 16311. The average assay value from 112 ft to 152 it is 35s Id per ton. At 122 ft a cross-cut exposed 31 ft of reel, the last Bit being mixed with country. Measured from the north wall, the first 19ft assays 33s 6d per ton and next 1211 Ss 3d per ton. ~ „ , . , . Diamond Drilling.—No. 2 hole to intersect tho Edward lode is down 6581 fc. From 482 ft to 643 ft is soft brown country from which only 291 ft of core was recovered. At 043 ft lit of oxidised quartz was intersected, assay value Is per ton. From 644 ft to 650 ft is grey and brown country with quartz, and from 650 ft to 658 ft is hard, flinty quartz showing only a trace of bullion. No. 16 hole (small drill) is a total length of 265 ft. At 257 ft quartz 3ft wide was intersected, assay value 6_s 30d per ton. This is probably a portion of tlie Magazine lode separated from the main body by a horse or country. Tho end of the hole is within a few feet of old Magazine workings, and boring has been stopped.
MOLYNEUX ELECTRIC DREDGE. A return of lUoz 16dwt of gold was obtained last, week by the Molyneux Electric dredge for a run ot lha hours. The depth in the centre of the cut has increased from 38ft to 40ft. _ On both sides where the bottom is higher the ground has been previously worked. The width of the cut dredged was 50ft, of which only about 10ft earned gold in a layer of soft blue schist overlying the hard rock bottom. 1 • To enable the dredge to work alidad more quickly operations will be concentrated on the central and deeper portion of the cut, which, if it continues to deepen, should yield improved returns. For some weeks past the ground dredged has proved too shallow io c«tj much gold.
