JEALOUS HUSBAND
CONEY ISLAND AFFRAY. While hundreds of persons looked on, two young men were stabbed m front of a restaurant on Coney Island by a stranger whoso wife the young men had mistaken . for an acquaintance. ' , , The crowd stood dazed as the young men gasped and fcll._ Nobody made a move to stop the assailant. Ho iiasti y put away bis knife _ and disappeared among the throngs with his rule. The wounded young men, both ot whom were stabbed m the abdomen, were taken to the Coney Island Hospital, Doctors there expressed little hope for their recovery. The men told detectives that they went into tho restaurant for dinner, and had been seated only _ a lew moments when their attention uas directed to a dark-haired young woman scaled at a table opposite with another young man , . , One said he thought ho recognised the young woman as a friend. Ho rose,"crossed tho room, and walked up to tho table. Ho said he was uncertain about his identification and wanted to be sure before making any salutation. When ho looked closely at her, ho said, ho realised his mistake, and, mumbling an apology, ho walked awav. . , ~ Both finished their meal, paid the -cheque, and strolled toward the door. 'The, young woman and her escort had already left. Just as the two men stepped on the sidewalk the noinan s escort grabbed one of the men from behind and whirled him around. Maintaining a firm grip, tho man hinged with a long bladed knilo and his victim fell. Another quick thrust caught Ids friend. Ho staggered and went down amid the awed crowd of men, women, and children. . . Tho shock of the attack stilled the witnesses. The man strode towards his wife, pul: the knife in a pocket, and shouted to one ol the meiig “I’ll teach you nut to flirt with a man’s wife.” Then the man and the woman hurried oil and disappeared. . The excitement did not start until the throngs had I'ccovered from the shock, and then several women became hysterical.
