PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the Plmiket office yesterday, and was attended by Mesdamos Johnstone (in the chair), Joseph M'Gcorge, Brown, Cairney, Williams, Wilson, Watson, Clcghorn, Barnett, Fraser, Taverner, Miss Burt, and the secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdamos Cunuinghamo, Gallaway, Dove, Marshall Macdonald, and Mandeno. The Secretary presented the monthly statement of the society’s finances to date, and accounts wore passed for payment. On the motion of Miss Burt, seconded by Mrs Brown, Mr D. Tamuick was unanimously elected a member of the advisory board of the Dunedin brunch of the society. The Matron, Karitanc-IJarris Hospital, reported for the month of August: —Number of patients in on July 31— Mothers 5, babies 23, total 28; admitted for treatment-mothers 11, babies 19, total JO; discharged (luring mouth—mothers 11, babies 19, total JO; largest number in residence on any one day—mothers 6, babies 23, total 29; number of patients in residence on August 31 mothers 5, babies 23, total 28. Nine mothers with their babies were Horn Dunedin, one from Macamlrew Bay, and one from Daman 1 .. Two babies were from Central Otago, and one each from Warrington, Waikonaili, and Palmerston, the rest being from Dunedin. The following nurses completed their training during the month:—Nurses Kenny, Cameron, Paora, Crawlord, Donnell, Patched, M‘Connell, Joyce, Campbell, Sago, Slater, Fenwick, 11arrop, Carmichael, and Humphries. The following commenced their course of training during August:—Nurses Wilson, Conningrave, Fairwcather, Doyle, Ciilf, Lloyd, Blake, King, Corbett; M'Kinnon, Knight, Gott, Houghton, Rountree, Thompson, and Houston. The end of term examination of Finnket trainees was held during the first week in August. Sir Truby King visited The hospital during the mouth and gave a lecture to the nurses in training. _ Gifts were received from Mrs Jamieson. There were 178 visitors during the month including Rev. James Barr, M.P. (Motherwell, Glasgow), wJio was accompanied by the Rev. Tulloch Yuillo and Mr Jenkins. The Plunkefc Nurses for North and Central Dunedin districts reported for the month:—Number of babies and older children on the list, 810; breastfed (including partly), 230; new cases for the month, babies only, 41; babies breast-fed (including partly), new cases, 37; new cases of expectant mothers, 5; visits paid to Blanket rooms—Stuart street (mothers 246, babies 179, older children 13), 438; Roslyn (mothers 105, babies 110, older children 21), 230; Morniuglon (mothers 37, babies 35), 72; Kelsey-Yaraila Kindergarten (mothers 54, babies 42, older children 38), 134; outpatients’ departinont - Hospital (mothers ILL

babies 9), 19; number of bottles_ of humanised milk sent out from Taieri Dairy, 5,751. The Plunket Nurse lor South Dunedin district reported for the month: — Number of babies on the list, 510; breast-fed (including partly), 130; now cases for the month (babies only), 22; babies breast-fed (including partly), new cases, 17; visits paid to homes, 310; visits paid to rooms, King Edward street (mothers 222, babies 216, older children 38), 476. The Plunket Nurse for Caversham district and outstations (north line) reported for the mouth ; —Number of babies ou the list, 210; babies breastfed (ii eluding partly), 57; new cases for the month (babies only), 5; babies breast-fed (including partly), new cases), 3; visits paid to Plunket office, Stuart street (mothers 58, babies 49, older children 0), 113; visits paid to office, outstations (mothers 72, babies 69, older children 17), 148; visits paid to homes, 130. The following visits were paid to outstations:—Waikouaiti 6, Port Chalmers 5, St. Leonards 5, Ravcnsbourno 5. The Plunket Nurse for_ Anderson’s Bay district and outstations (south lino) reported for the month :—Number of babies on (ho list, 234; babies breastfed (including partly), 97; new cases for the month (babies only), 12; babies breast-fed (including partly), new cases, 9; new cases expectant mothers, 4: visits paid to homes—-Anderson’s Bay 113, Mosgicl 12, Abbotsford, Green Island, and Burnside 54, Macan- I drew Bay 5; total, 184. Alter the ordinary business of the meeting was concluded the special subcommittee lor raising funds met to make preliminary arrangements in regard to “ Daffodil Day.”
