ODDS AND ENDS

Black fabrics should be washed as quickly as possible in moderately warin soapy water. Afterwards rinse well in lukewarm water, to which add vinegar and salt in the proportion of one tablespoonful each to every gallon of water. Some people prefer deep blue water for black silk or crepe de chine. Do not roll up after washing. Some people find it very difficult to keep warm in bed during the cold weather, even with hot water bottles. Try sleeping in an old piece of blanket. A good way of keeping the feet warm is to wear long knitted woollen leggings. These are much better than short socks. The arms, too, should be covered as far as the elbows if the circulation is bad. There is twice as much nourishment in one pound of cheese as there is in one pound of meat. Cheese can be made much more digestible by grating or fixing with starchy food. A piece of bicarbonate of soda added to the cheese is also useful for those who find cooked cheese difficult to digest. In making cheese dishes .such as Welsh rarebit, do not overcook the cheese, or it will become tough.
