HOCKEY PLAYERS' REVEL
SUCCESSFUL BALL A large gathering of members and friends of, the Otago Hockey Association was present at the association’s ball in the Embassy Salon, held last evening. The function was an outstanding success, and a very enjoyable time was spent by everybody. From the time Mr Heath’s Orchestra struck up at 8 o’clock till midnight the festivities went with a joyous swing. The programme was of old and new dances. Perfect arrangements for the many wore made by the committee, which was as follows;—President, Mr J. Hogg; secretary, Mr H. Sew Hoy; M.C., Mr J. Dey. The hall was artisticalljTMccorated with gay-colored ribbons and balloons. The electric and spotlight effects wore pretty. Mr H. F. Cayton, convener of the Social Committee, was responsible for the supper, provided. During the evening a large number of cups wore presented by the president (Mr J. Hogg). The first ouo was the Gil ray Cup for the best team in the senior competition, which was won by the King Edward Technical College. The Williamson Cup for junior competition was won by High School Old Hoys; the Hayward Cup for the senior seven-a-side was won by University; the Moller Cup for the junior seven-a-side was presented to High School Old Bovs; and the Gymnastic Memorial Cup for the third grade competition was won by the Otago Boys’ High School. -A hockey stick, winch , was donated by Diliau Chand (a member of the Indian team) for the best primary school team, was won by the Caversham School. This team is the first one to win this prize, and it is to be presented at the school nest Wednesday. A presentation of a beautiful bowl was made to Mr Hinton on the occasion of Ins approaching marriage for his services as a plavcr. and also for the assistance he has always given to the association. The members of this year’s representative team were also presented with caps. , Mr Hogg, in presenting the various trophies, congratulated the' winners on their success. He also stated that the past season was one of the most successful in the history of the game. After all the trophies had been presented dancing was continued with renewed vigor until the early hours of the morning.
