OTAGO HUNT MEETING
DOTES AND ANTICIPATIONS The adjournment of the annual race meeting of the Otago Hunt Club from last Saturday to to-morrow lias added interest to the meeting, and with the fine weather since a wonderful improvement has bqen made in the course. Tho daily improvement has been very marked, and by to-morrow tho going will be good. Nearly a hundred horses worked this morning, but lew, if any, of them were sent against time.. The most pleasing work was performed by Uiyinial, who showed she was well by scampering "ovcif half a mile attractively, The Babe, Appian Way, Exide, Tbnrlow, Fairy Tidings, Message Boy, Mataipuko Royal Fashion, Peter Marion, Dick Travis, Felony, and Captain Sarto.
Racing will commence at 12.45 p.m. with the Hunters’ Hurdles, in which The Babe is likely to start favorite, and Fabriano and Thistlecrown are the most likely to dispute the finish with him. The two-year-old parade will follow, and as airof the local candidates in the M'Leau Stakes will sprint down the straight unusual interest will ho taken in the parade. r Th President’s Handicap, ol five furlongs, lias attracted a good field of sprinters, and as Schottische, Irom Invercargill, is reported to have been showing good form on her homo track, she is expected to run well. Ark Royal, Appian Way, and Larkaway (who Hails from Oainaru) are each fancied- ~ The Jockey Club Handicap fiqld may be reduced when the numbers go up on the totalisntbr, and Wingatui, SoJtoc, Black Duke, and High Gear are doubtful starters. _ Fairy Tidings, after her Wellington win, is likely to go out favorite, but Arpent has more recent form to recommend him, and Divimal can be relied on to sec out a good mile. 'The Otago Hunt Steeplechase will see a good field of hunters over the ienccs, and Andy showed such good Jorm at tiie Winton Meeting last November that he looks a class better than the others. Isla Bank should run well, but does not carry weight well, and Royal Fashion aqd Mataipuke should be tho best of the light-weight division. The improvement in the course will now permit of the Wingatui trotting race being run on the racing trade, and several of the candidates will be well supported. Red Abbey and Sunspot (from Invercargill), Cora Locanda (from Washclyke), and Berma Pointer vill each be well supported. The Hunters’ Flat should provide a good race, and Arcos and Armchair have the best credentials. Tho Brockvillo Steeplechase has attracted a wonderfully good field, and if he wore right Tuki, despite his big burden, should lie hard to beat. O.sterinau lias been very well treated, and Peter Marion (who won over tho Iliccarton country last month) reads particularly well on the minimum, llanui teads the best of the others. Several of the acceptors in the Vauxhall Handicap are also engaged earlier in the afternoon, and may be withdrawn from this race. If reserved for this race Ronald, Royal Head, and Felony may run well. So far only Arrowy and Miss Garanno have been officially scratched, so it looks as if the fields will be good throughout the afternoon. The gold-niOuntcd whip won by Alex. M‘Leilan for having won the greatest number of trotting races in Otago and Southland last season will be presented to that horseman immediately after the trotting race ou the programme to-morrow. An excellent train service has been arranged, nine trains leaving Dunedin for the course between 9.9 a.m. and 2.15 p.m. ’
