Company, which was called to authorise the increase in the deterred stock, shareholders contended that the new stock should be issued to deferred shareholders only, and not to holders of preference shares.
An amendment postponing the increase was carried by 44 votes to 38. Lord Inchcapc suggested an immediate poll, but the shareholders objected. Ho also pointed out that under the company’s charter stock must be offered to both preferred and deferred shareholders. Tho meeting adjourned till October 12. [An earlier message stated: The Peninsular Company proposes L? increase its capital by the creation of 1,000,000 additional deferred stock at £2OO, which will he offered first to existing shareholders. The new money will be utilised for new steamers building and others to be built.]
