The annual race meeting of the Thames Jockey Club on October 29 and 31 is this year to be held at Ellerslie instead of at Thames. The Auckland Racing Club Committee, ia granting permission for the use of the Ellerslie course, states that it was given to understand tha4 the Thames racecourse had been condemned as unsafe for racing. and that in order to make such a course a safe osio it was essential to acquire additional land and generally
Club would find it_ difficult to raise under present conditions. The committee carefully considered the position, and, feeling that it was its duty in tho interests of racing to help the Thames Jockey Club in its and to prevent that club from becoming defunct, resolved to agree to the application on the understanding that the Thames Club immediately acquires the necessary laud and embarks at once on tiro work of remaking its track and putting it in proper condition, so that there would bo no doubt of it racing on its own course next season. merry mint amiss. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, September 14. Merry Mint, after exercising, developed a swelling on the oft fetlock joint. It will bo a few days before the nature of the trouble is known. Lineage is also amiss. He developed hoof trouble, necessitating his being cased up in training. CANTERBURY TURF NOTES. THE DUNEDIN MEETING. (SrcciAL xo TUB ‘Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, September 14. Present indications suggest that the Riccarton stables will be strongly repro edited in the two-year-old events at the Dunedin J.G. Meeting next month (says to-night’s ‘Star’). More than half a dozen youngsters with engagements in tho M'Loan Stakes are going on exceptionally well in thou work. Tbo Cutts brothers have had to ease up some of their two-year-olds temporarily on account of colds or other troubles, which it is hoped will not prove serious. Childsnlay (Autumnns—Helter Skelter! is the most forward, and she will probably represent Sir George Clifford in the M'Lean Stakes. Full Feather (Autumnus—Equipment) is just getting over a slight cold, and it is intended if he goes on all right to race him at Trentham next month.
The two-year-old filly Rigmarowe (Absurd—Makepeace), in P. V. Mason’s stable, is going on well in her work. She shows great speed, and should show up prominently in tho M‘Lcan Stakes. Noteworthy, the Paper Mpnoy—-Gaze-worthy gelding, in G. J. Pino’s stable, is one of the most promising two-year-olds in training at Riccarton. He is being got ready for the M'Lean Stakes, in which ho should be seen to considerable advantage. Track form at Riccarton makes it look as if Mr G. D. Greenwood will bo well represented in the Dunedin Guineas. Eulalie has been galloping exceptionally well lately, while Shaliinar may prove a good second string. Eulalie has a fine turn of speed, and runs out six furlongs very solidly, but tbo last little bit of a milo journey may trouble her.
