BALMACEWEH CLUB Tho annual icport. oi the fennis section of tho Baliuaccwcn Bowling, lennis, and Croquet Club states: —I lie membership during the season was fairlv well maintained, hut again on account of removals from the district there are still a lew vacancies, notwithstanding tho tact that there ate a few new applications, favored By good weathci, the season was succesful and interest by members was "el I maintained. The club entered one 1> grade and one C grade team in the association’s competitions, and holn teams acquitted themselves creditably. Places on the dub’s ladder were heeiny competed for, and it was very pleasing to sec how many ot the juniors improved their position. Ihe most notable event in the club’s was the holding of a bazaar, the proceeds ol which arc to be devoted to relaying the centre court and Lo reduce the club s liabilities. This bazaar wa> a great success (approximately LhU was raised). and the dub is greatly indebted to those members of all sections who worked so assiduously, others who supported it so well. Jhe courts throughout the season were in fair playing condition, ami two have just been top-dressed, in the autumn the centre court will he relaid. hi Lie association’s Yankee tournaments the club was well represented, and Miss K. MHntosh and Mr R. Smith won tho trophy presented by Dr Moody. A gala knock-out tournament was lie,ld by the club early in the season, when practically every member participated. I lie winners proved to be Miss M. .M‘Douald and Mr W. Stevenson. The usual club handicap events were hold, the winners being: Men’s championship singles, Mr Ron Smith: men’s handicap doubles, Messrs Seymour and Kindle. The tennis section greatly appreciates the kindly interest displayed m its affairs by the club president, Mr \ Rmby, and it also wishes lo record its thanks to the ladies for attending to afternoon tea, and to tho caretaker (Mr Wallace) for Ins careful attention to the courts.
