FAR FROM SKILLED HELP
DEATH ON SUNDAY ISLAND [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND. September 14. On November 2 of last year three men- -Charles Henry Parker, Alfred Paeon, and James Ashwortli — JeHnaeAland by the Government steamer Hinemoa for Sunday Island, where they intended taking up tobacco growing, etc. They wore landed there by Captain A. 13. Cant four days later. On April 11 of this year Captain Cant, while on his way to Auckland, saw signals hying on the island. The steamer was hove to, and Bacon and Ashworth were taken off. They said that their companion had died An imprest concerning the death oi Parker was held before tho coroner, Mr Hunt. S.M., this morning. Bacon said that about the middle Ot March deceased got a splinter from lent in his linger. Witness poulticed tho finger, and on March 20 deceased appeared >ll Ho seemed to ho partly paralysed, and could hardly swallow or open his month. Ho died early on tho morning ot March 23, and was buried. This evidence was corroborated by Ashworth, and by extracts from diaries kept by Bacon and by deceased. Dr Murray said that after hearing the evidence ho was of opinion that deceased died of tetanus following the wound on his finger. A verdict was returned in accordance with tho medical evidence. The Coroner said he considered that the companions of the deceased had done all in their power to save his life.
