Lyttelton, Wellington. Pielon. and Auckland. The Ivanna, which had her rudder removed at Port Chalmers for repairs, came out of dry dock yesterday, and will probably sail on Friday for Link. The Tablin' went to Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon to load meat and tallow. The tramp steamer Persian Prince sailed Irom Nauru Island mi September 2 with phosphates lor discharge at, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. _ The vessel is due at Lyttelton next Thursday. Kuudsoii arrived at San Pedro on her last, voyage irom New Zealand she underwent overhaul before proceeding with her loading. She sailed from San Pedro on August 18, and experienced line weather during the gienter part ol the trip. Heavy seas wore encountered about 400 miles north of New Zealand for two days, but otherwise the voyage was uneventful. Captain Bakke. who is accompanied by his wife, retains command, and tno following arc his oflieers:—Chief, Mr Bnudegal; second, Mr Omland; third, Mr Rasmussen; chief engineer, Mi' Schorl; second, Mr Sandven; third, Mr Ostiam. LOSS OF BARQUE .BIRRDALE. One more of the world’s attenuated fleet of sailing ships has disappeared. The Peruvian barque Birkdale, bound from Hull to Callao, which was first posted as “overdue,” has now been reported as wrecked on Lobos Island, in tho Nelson Channel,' Chile, alter having been oil fire. The Birkdale was one of Hie last British barques, having been owned in England till, 1924, when she was sold to Messrs G. Ronald and Co., of Callao. Built in 3892, of 1,483 tons register. she hud dn adventurous career, and in 1912 was drifting for over fifty days, disabled by storm. She was rescued by- a French steamer oif Phillippevillo, and survived to do useful woric in the Pacific, well away from the submarine menace.

SUSSEX AT AUCKLAND. The Union Company advises that the Sussex, from Calcutta, Penang, Singapore, and Samarang, arrived at Auckland yesterday. She is expected to leave there on Thursday for Wellington. Lyttelton, Tiinarn. Dunedin, and Bind'. The vessel is dno here about th.‘ end of the month. PERSONAL. Captain E. J. C. Gibson has been appointed to the command of the Kahn raki, relieving Captain H. J Doyle, who is ashore on private business. Mr H. L English has succeeded Mr J. Dawson ns chief officer of the Ponlta. The latter officer is taking Jus holidays. Mr T. E. Bevan, chief officer of the Waipnri, has been granted holidays, and his place has been taken by Air W. E. Willis. Mr H. S. Collier is now chief officer of the Kartigi, Mr F. G. Mabb having been granted holidays. Captain S. A. Chatficld has taken command of the Kanna, relieving Captain J Green, who took command ol‘ the Opihi yesterday at Dunedin. Captain G. Iloddinott t of the Opihi, has cmno ashore to await instructions. MOTOR PASSENGER"LINERS. , The two new 16,000-ton motor passenger liners, built by the HamburgAmcrican Line lor (ho North Atlantic service, are to be named the Cincinnati and Milwaukee. Thq Cincinnati is tlio second of her name in the service of tho line, the iirst having been interned at Boston during the war. and later taken over by the United States Government for transport service, and renamed the Covington. She was toi‘pedoed in 1918.
