Three members of the Legislature left Dunedin this morning for Wellington—the lion. D. T. Fleming, the Hon. ,1. A. lianan, and Mr F. Waite. Mr Adam Paterson journeyed by train to Oamani to-day. .Mr 11. Lee left fur Wellington this morning. Mr C. A. Lewin, town clerk, is on his way to Wellington to watch the passage of the AVaipori Hill. Bishop Mules celebrated his ninetieth birthday at Nelson last Thursday. He was born in the year in winch Qnwn ATctoria was called to Ihe throne, and he has received many congratulatory message-; from England and all parts of New Zealand. Bishop Sadi ter personally conveyed the good wishes of all in the Nelson diocese. Bishop Mules is now making .steady recovery from his serious ilium.-,.
Mr AAalter Wright, who died at his residence, Cumberland tdreel, on Saturday. at Ibe ago of sixty-three, was among Ihe host-known of Dunedin’s older townsmen. He was the .son of the lain Mr AATlliam Wright, who founded the business now known as William AA’rigbt and Co., TAP.., about the veer ]B(J|. It was then a grocery establishment, hut later ft bakery uas opened, in which Mr Walter Wright was associated with his father. He spent the whole of his life in Dunedin, ami was a prominent member of the Dunedin Male Choir in the nineties.
At the monthly meeting of the MosgM Borough Council last night the Mayor referred to the death since the previous meeting of Cr Henderson, the deputy-mayor. He said that during the period the deceased had occupied a scat at the council (able he had served the ratepayers faithfully and well, and was untiring in his efforts in the interests of the borough. He moved that the council place on record Cr Hemlcrson’s services, and that a letter of condolence he sent to his widow and children. The motion was carried in the customary manner. The town clerk, Green Island, wrote extending to the mayor and councillors the sympathy of the members of the Green Island Borough Council in the loss they had sustained by the death of the deputy-mayor of the boroughLev. A. C. Watson, East Tnieri Church, nolilicd that a memorial sendee would he held in the church or Sunday, and asked the council ti attend. The invitation was accepted.
