SCOUT NOTES

[By Totem.] The First Dunedin Hoslyn 1 Troop paraded in good numbers at headquarters, Coronation Hall. Maori Hill, on Friday night. After tno fall-in the Scouter referred to tho tug-of-war congest tp take place at tho St. Kilda Baud’s carnival between the various troops. It was decided to enter two teams for this competition. Tho fallowing routine work was carried out during tho evening Hawks, Morse ailing and , conventional signs; Stags, map reading and blindfold knot tying; Bellbirds, first aid bandaging and poisons: Rams, semaphore and boxing; Eagles, distance judging and 1 lots on first-class badge journey. Before dismissal tho toys for the tug-of-war teams were picked. There was a fair parade of the North Dunedin Troop at headquarters last Friday evening. Tho troop was surprised when fall-iu was called to see all the Green Island boys lined up in the hall. Three Scouts received their ambulance badges, and one passed his second class. During the evening two games of Soccer were played between the 'visitors ai.d tho homo boys, the latter winning both games. Later in the evening the troop was paid a surprise visit by ex-Scouter M'Diarmid. Members of the Parents’ Committee who visited tho troop were Mesdames Gratton and Bullock. Ah Alunty, and Mr Harland.

The Ninth Dunedin (“ Alohicans ”) paraded on Wednesday evening. After inspection a short run over of the play tho troop intends presenting at :+ - concert to be given early in October was held. Tenderfoot and second class work was practised. After playing games the troop dismissed. A special meeting of the Troop Committee was afterwards held, and tho form tho concert should take was discussed, it being finally decided that it be a concert and dance, 'with _a set supper. The troop’s annual meeting will bo held to-morrow evening.

The Tenth Dunedin (Green Island) Troon, instead of holding its weekly meeting at Green Island, visited tho North Dunedin Troop. The number on parade was eighteen, under Scouter Alurie, and a very pleasant and happy tnVht was spent. Following the usual procedure, general business and announcements formed tho first part of tho programme at tho Rover den on Thursday evening last. Rovers were detailed off to assist troops and Cub packs _in need of leaders. Several signalling stations wero formed, and messages relayed by semaphore signalling. Tenderfoot teste were taken by Leader Moore. Tho items to bo given by the pack at the Northeast Valley Troop display on Thursday next were rehearsed. St. John’s Ambulance badges, qualified for by a number of Rovers, were presented. The pack will parade as usual at the den on Thursday, at 7.30, and will afterwards proceed to North-east Valley with Leader Aloore.

Tho Roslyn Panther Pack paraded at headquarters, Alaori Hill, on Wednesday last. Owing to the wot weather there was a poor muster of Cubs. The roll call and inspection were followed by a game of Simon Says, after which the Sixers took charge and carried on with the work. The latter part of the evening was devoted to games, in which all the Cubs took part. As tho Sixers were holding a competition among the hoys ( m their respective sixes, it was decided to give the best boy in each a prize. Tho two boys who were successful in gaining the prizes were L. Scott (Reds) and Lex Craighead (Browns).
