IHTOXIGATED MOTOR'S! 08HVICTED Donald William Stronach, a sheep fanner from Otago Central, offered no defence this morning to a charge of being found in charge of a motor car in Stafford street while in a state of intoxication. He was fined £I(J, his license cancelled, and he was prohibited from driving for a period of two years. Senior-sergeant Quartcmaiu said that defendant drove down the street on his correct side and at a reasonable speed, but he failed to sound bis horn at the corner and knocked a man down. He did not stop, but drove on, down to Princes street and up High street. Hero ho was met and slopped by Traffic-inspector Watson, but was too muddled to give any explanation. Mr B. S. Irwin, on behalf of the defendant, said that the latter’s brakes had failed to act; that accounted for his not stopping. His intention had been to return to tho spot where he had knocked over the man and see what damage ho had done. He had no excuse to offer otherwise. Tho Senior Sergeant said that defendant had been previously convicted of negligent driving of a car. His Worship indicted tho penalty mentioned above.
