On Saturday the final meetings of the season were successfully run off on tm Maungatim open country. Much m Hm land was under water, ami in order to reach dry country, where hares were numerous, tho Jollowers ol the loasu had to wade though mud and water, in some places up to tho knees. Despite these discomforts, the twenty beaters plodded on, and were amply rewarded, as fifteen courses were run, and most of these were lengthily and closely contested. In consequence the jud'-e, Mr C. Marks, and Air J. Idynn (his assistant) had a strenuous task in following the scores, but at Ho end ol the day everyone was satisfied that all the decisions were correct, and these two officials deserve the thanks ol every sport for the way in winch they carried out their duties. Air 11. Morns, as slipper, never Jailed to get his brace sighted, and be was ably assisted by Mr W. Clarke. Hares were numerous and strong, and one course, between Alate o’ Aline and Blueberry, lasted just on live minutes. Several other courses were run over fences, ditches, through water, ploughed paddocks, and turnips, and in every instance the longtnils showed wonderful endurance by sticking to their quarry and eventually pulling them down. The Grcenslado Cup was won by that consistent and third-year pcrlornier Slyly Achieved, who led and deleaied his opponents in a masterly manner. Ho is owned by Mr W Hall, of Pino Hill, and is by Achieved First—Sly Aliss. The nunier-np was Aiiss N. Anderson’s First Shot, a last and clever performer. The Farewell Stakes, for the lour dogs beaten in the Grecnsbulo Cup first round, was deservedly won by APPberson’s Mate o’ Aline, who deieuted James’s Blueberry over a long and trying course. Hall's .Slyly Achieved led and defeated Morris's Jvumik Song, the latter scoring only onto over a lengthy run. M'Pherson’s ato o’ Mine and Scott’s Rapid Fire Jiacl an unsatisfactory run, tile latter loading up, Mato o’ Mine losing sight in the inn np. Rapid Fire getting the Hag. •Morris’s Kcvansport ran a hyc, Little's Queen Fairy being absent. Miss •\. Anderson’s First Shot led James's Blueberry, and over a very long run through fences'and water won all the way. Blueberry struck a fence early in tlio course and could not join in the. final stages. First Ties.—Slyly Achieved led Rapid Fire by a two-point lead, and turned puss, when several exchanges then took place. Over a long run to cover Rapid Fire tired, and Slyly Achieved gave him a clean “ go-bye ” and won a brilliant coarse.
Kcvansport and First Shot ran in two undecided events, bulb dogs bcinjj; evenly matched, Kevansport leading up by a narrow margin in both courses, but First Shot evened up the scores. In the third attempt, over a long course, Kcvanspori again leal and turned, and alter several exchanges First Shut secured the verdict by a narrow margin. The Final.—Slipped to a racy bare on a grass paddock, Slyly Achieved made the pace by several lengths ahead of First Shot, and after a long ran grassed puss, ins opponent only scoring once.
FABEWELE STAKE. Fur dogs-beaten in the first round ot Urccuslado Cup; First prize, miniature silver cup (presented by Mr C. Marks) and IDs; second dog, pair vases (presented by an anonymous donor) and IDs.
Komik Song led Mato o’ Mine over a no-courso. When slipped again Komik Song led and turned, but Mate o’ Mine outworked his brother ami was a good winner throughout. Blueberry led Queen Fairy (the latter falling), and when the quarry got out ot sight Blueberry was the winner. Final. James’s Blueberry led MTlierson's Mato o’ Mine to a good bare, and put up live points before Mate o’ Mine scored. After that Blueberry faded away, and Ids opponent wiped out the scores and won a gruelling course.
