LONDON, September 9. There wero many sensational escapes from the fire in the throe-storied building at the film works alongside Regent’s Canal. St. Pancras. Many employees clambered down the drain pipes, while others hung to tho window sills, frightened to jump. A few of those were overcome ami fell into the canal. They wero rescued in a semi-conscious condition.
It is certain that there would have bean a terrible death roll but for tho canal bargemen, who ran up ladders and rescued many from the bottom windows. Above tho roar of the inferno could bo beard the terrified screams of women.
The firemen’s task was practically hopeless, because adjoining the premises was a garage, where there were stocks of petrol Many cars were destroyed.
There were scores of instances of individual heroism of tho rescuers, who dragged fainting girls with dothlnf afire from tho building.— A. Mid find ‘gun’ Cable.
