(11.15 p.m.), 2,625 tons, Reed, for Bluff. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Wabine, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.55 a.m. to-day, and passengers and mails came south by the 8.59 express.

NEW LLOYD’S REGISTER, The 1927-2 S edition of ‘Lloyd’* Register of Shipping,’ which •is now being issued to subscribers, brings up to date the census of the world’s ships over 100 tons. From tables it appears that the total number of steamers and motor ships in existence is 23,907, of an aggregate tonnage of 03,267,302—a' slight increase from last year, when the figure was 02,671,937. Sailing vessels number 3,208, of 1,925,808 tons, and it is notable that one-fourth of the number—viz., 805, with nearly one-half of the tonnage, viz.—898,767, belongs to the American registry. British steamers and motor ships number 7,820, of a gross tonnage of 19,179,029, and, adding the ships owned: in the dominions, India, and other possessions,' the number is 9,876, and the tonnage 21,877,969. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Tnrakina sailed from Liverpool on Saturday with genera! merchandise from, West of Great Britain ports for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. GUANO FOR NEW ZEALAND. Large quantities of guano and phosphates have been arriving, in NewZealand lately. Besides vessels from Makatca Island, Ocean Island, and Nauru Island, the barque Beatrice arrived at Bluff on August 27 with 3,000 tons of guano from Seychelles Islands, tli3 Norwegian steamer Austvard arrived at Wellington on Monday evening with 7,000 tons of phosphates . from Safaga Bay, and the steamer. Epsom is due at Bluff next Saturday with a full cargo of guano from Juan de'Nbva. SUSSEX FROM EASTERN ROUTS. Tho Sussex, from Calcutta, Reuang, and Singapore, left Sanaa rang on August 24 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, and Bluff. The Kahika is to leave Westport on Monday for Dunedin and Bluff, and after discharge at the latter port she will return to Dunedin to load, for Napier and Gisborne. The Waipiata, from Auckland via Lyttelton, is due here on Tuesday. The Gale is due to-morrow from Wellington direct, and is to sail on Monday for Timani, Lyttelton, Wellington,' and \Vanganni. The Storm is due on Thursday to load for Timani, Lyttelton, 'Wellington, sand Wanganui. When the Gisborne .Sheep! armors' steamer Tiroa'wcnt on slip on ■ Tuesday it was found that damage to the extent of about' £SOO had been done when tho .collier Hikiirangi rammed her at King’s wharf tho day before. There is to bo no nautical inquiry over the accident. The Tiroa is expected j to be on slip for about ten days. Advice received states that the Golden Sea was despatched from Port Arthur, Texas, on August !) with case oil for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Beauty Point, Melbourne, Bunbury, and Fremantle. She is due at Auckland on September 15. The tramp steamer Antinous, from ' Ocean Island, arrived at Auckland yesterday, and was berthed this morning. The Queen Eleanor is to leave Montreal on September 24 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin,, Melbourne, and Sydney. She should arrive at Auckland about November 3.. THE TREWORLAS. Tho captain of the Treworlas states by radio that tho vessel will arrive at Auckland on Monday from New York via Levuka and Suva.
