ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.

The body of a man was discovered yesterday amongst some mangroves on the beach between the Waitakaruru and Piako Rivers (Auckland). It is believed to be that of John Phillips, who lias been missing for about three weeks, and who, it is thought, fell into the Kauaeranga River. William Rodgers, an elderly man, and an old, highly-respected resident of Wharepoa, near Thames, was found dead alongside his cow byre. Mr Rodgers was engaged in feeding his cows, when he had a suuden seizure and fell. When he was noticed life was extinct. An inquest was held at Kaitangata yesterday into the circumstances under which William M'Allister met his death. The deceased died at his home at Kaitangata last Sunday morning from pneumonia, but a week or two previously had met with an accident while working in the mine. After hearing th« evidence it was decided to adjourn the inquest till next week, to enable Dr Chumptatoup to make an examination of part of the body to ascertain whether deceas&d died from septic pneumonia, as a complication of the accident, or from the ordinary form of the disease. Peter Anderson, a fisherman, 70 years of age, residing at Carey Bay, complained of a slight pain in the region of the heart when he and his wife retired to bed last night. He read for a while after retiring. Tiiis morning he was dead when Mrs Anderson awoke. Medical aid was summoned, but lifo was extinct. Death is attributed to heart failure. Deceased leaves a grown-up family. An inquest will be held at 2 p.m. to-morrow. An elderly laborer named David Blair died suddenly at his residence, Hawthorn, North-east Valley, yesterday morning. He appeared to be quite well at 6.30 yesterday morning, but at 10 o'clock his wife entered his bedroom and found him dead. Dr Martin will conduct a peat mortem, and an inquest will be held at the morguo tomorrow morning.

A Greymouth message states that at the adjourned inquest on Philip Finlay, who died as the result of injuries sustained at the State coal mine, a verdict of "Accidental death" was returned.
