Tl-o Dunedin Burns Chib held their ' monthly meeting last night m the Early juniors' Hall, which hold a large ati te-'danee As is usual at the ciub s i social meetings, a capital programme : of entertainment was jiiveu. Mr M'Lwan I g;ivo an 'outline of the life of Wallace. j and referred to him as one of the i greatest heroes in history. | One of the leading features of the ! programme was a spirited debate as to j whether " Burns has exercised a, wider ( and deeper influence than tt'ordsi worth." The affirmative was taken by ! Messrs L. H. Hunt and F. J3. Adams, i and the negative by Messrs F. F. Miles i and Andrew Hamilton. The arguments i were extremely interesting, and th« I judge. Qlr A. H. Burton) announced that the speakers-for the negative, side had won by a single point, the awards b"'ing 138 and 137 points respectively. During evoniag a children's playetto, cntiikd 'The-Xetv Fairyland,' was given by MV* A. Grifnths's junior pupils-, a dance of Spring being also introduced bv a pupil of -Miss Hamann. Other contributors to the programmo were Pipe-major M'Galium (bagpipe selection). Mrs Arthur Grifliths (recitation), Mr D. J. S. Robertson, Mr s. C. Lawson, and Mr J. Robertson (soups), -nd Mr D. Boyd (tiwnbon. solo). Three part songs wore rendered by the choir. . , Arrcngeine)'t3 are being made by the club to hold a "'Scott night" in August, and the Halloween night m October.
