CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

I HAIRDRESSERS' AGREEMENT. As a result of the conference yesterday I between representatives of the Hair- ;' dressers' Union and the employers, Mr , Triggs, Conciliation Commissioner, the following agreement was arrived at: | Hours of Labor. —The hours of labor ■ shall be F-2 per week, exclusive of meal I hours. The recognised hours of work in j each establishment shall be fixed by each J employer according to the circumstances of j his business," but-the day's work shall end I not later than 8 p.m. on three days of the 1 week, and not later than 6 p.m. on one day of the week, not later than 1 p.m. on the afternoon of the weekly half-holiday, and not later than 9.15 p.m. on the evenings of Saturdays, except on Christmas and New Year's Eve, when 10.30 p.m. ' shall be observed. | Meal Hours.—The employer shall so ar- : range his hours as to enable his workmen to have one hour for dinner, between the ! hours of 12 noon and 2 o'clock, p.m. on i four days of the week, and on Saturday, or the day hereafter appointed in its place, one hour for dinner between 12 noon and 2 o'clock p.m., and one hour for tea, bei tween the hours of 5 o'clock and 7 p.m. i Work in Hand to be Finished. —All work I in hand in connection with haircutting and shaving shall be finished before the worki men leave their work. " Work in hand " means work in the chair, but each assistant .'may be required to attend to one other customer after the hour for closing has arrived. ' Minimum Wage.—The minimum, wages ! to be "-paid to journeymen shall be the sum of £2 -15s per week. Holidays.—The following days shall be observed as full holidays:—New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday. Labor Day, Prince of Wales's Birthday. Christ- ! mas Day, and the day appointed for the S hairdressers' annual picnic. Work shall I cease not later than 10.30 o'clock p.m. on i the evenings preceding Christmas Day and i Xew Year's Day, and on the evening pre- ■ ceding Good Friday 9 o'clock p.m., and on -nights preceding all other full holidays : work to cease not later than 8 o'clock j p.m. The following days shall be observed as partial holiday- : —From 12 o'clock noon the day after New Year's Day, Boxing Day, Show Day. King's Birthday ; and 1 o'clock a.m. Cup Day. In the event of any of the holidays in this clause falling on Saturday or Sunday, such holidays shall be observed on the previous Wednesday, or onthe-iay adopted by the Retailers' Association. No deductions F,hall be made from the week's wages for any of the full or partial holidays aforesaid. Qualification for Journeymen.—A journeyman shall mean one who has been employed at the trade for a total period of at least five years. The usual provisions are made for underrate workers. . Apprentices.-—The proportion of apprentices shall be regulated as follows:—One apprentice to every three journeymen or fraction of three journeymen permanently employed. "Permanently employed" shall mean at least six months' continuous employment. Where the employer has more than the above proportion of apprentices at this date no new ones shall be taken on until ihe number has been reduced "below the proportion stipulated. No employer to have more than five ap- ; prentices. For the purposes of this clause j an apprentice in his fifth year shall not 1 count either as an apprentice or as a journeyman, and an employer shall count as a journeyman.
