♦- A meeting of tho C<>nOoiUi-.o wasf.hrb.l at Government Building, at f"»r o'clock this afternoon; present Mer-:m>- A. O. Begg (in the chair), IVOhMiolm, W. C. Smith, Stoddart, G. M. Thoinpon, B» Campbell, J. Wilkic (honorary secretary), and Deans LIVK CHAMOIS. ' Dr Von Haast wrote, stating that he believed that live chamois could be got from Munich by tho preliminary expenditure of LIOO. The Chaikman did not think that the state of the Society's finances would warrant the expenditure just at present. They would be put to an expense for erecting ponds at Clinton, which would absorb all the available finances for the next twelve months. Their revenue would be between L3W) and L4OO, and; the wages alone amounted to L3OO, Independent of travelling and other expenses. Mr Thomson .thought the ; opportunity of Professor Von Haast's visit Home as | Exhibition Commissioner should not be lost. It would be a gain to tho whole of the Soutli Island to have them in the Alpß. He suggested that the co-opJßratibn of other Acclimatisation Societies should be obtained in communicating with the Government. tt was resolved to request GoVcrnment to take Bteps for the introduction of live chamois. PLY PISHWfe: •.''.. ■ , !, Mr G. M. Marshall, secretary to the Otago Anglers' Association, wrote asking if it was the intention of the Society to give a gold medal this year for. competition for flyfishing. ~•* The Society agreed to give a gold medal for fly-fishing in the Lee Stream between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on any day the Association might fix.
