MUNICIPAL
Mornington.—At this Borongh Council's meeting last night there were present—the Mayor (Mr J. English), Crs Morrison, Nicolson, Campbell, Carey, Frapwell, Scoular, and the newly-elected members, Messrs Gaffin, Grindley, and CahilL—A letter complaining of the depositing of rubbish in Longwood avenue was referred to the inspector. Letters from the Perpetual Trustees Company, complaining of an overflow of water over a road; and from Mr J. Bevin, referring to the state of the road above his house, were also referred to the inspector. Cr Morrison proposed and Cr Scocllar seconded a motion to the effect that the Council would agree to pay half the cost of the erection and maintenance of a lamp at the corner of Glen avenue and Argyle street, provided the Tramway Company erected and maintained a lamp at the Mornington terminus.—The transfer of mortgage debenture No. 8 was confirmed.—The Works Committee repotted in reference to a footpath in William street that they thought that temporary patching would benefit no one, and to make a complete work of it would cost several pounds. They had investigated Mr J. Newsomea complaint re overflow of water, but could not discover that any evil existed. They/ had visited St. Ann's road, and suggested that the Inspector should report on the probable cost.—The Inspector reported in reference to this matter that a good carttrack could be formed for L 4 5; but if the road was metalled with rotten rock the cost would be about L3s.—The report of the Finance Committee showed that the bank overdraft was L 876 9s 2d. The reports were adopted.—lt was resolved that Lift be. voted towards the formation of Aitken place in addition to the snnralready voted. —Crs Campbell, Morrison, and Grindley/ were appointed a Works Committee; Crs Nicolson, Cahill, and Scoular a Finance Committee; and Crs CafGn, Carey, and Frapwell a Mayor's Committee.
St. KiLDA.-The Mayor (Mr H. Gonrley) and Crs Daly, Dent, Bellett, and Stephouse attended this Council's meeting last night.—A request by Mr Ackland, poundkeeper, that the pound fees should be increased, was not complied with. The Inspector reported in reference to certain works, and he was instructed to repair the streets leading to Tahuna Park.
