THE COURTS-TO-DAY.

RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. (Before E. H. Carew, Esq., R.M.) In the following case judgment was given for plaintiff by default:—J. Fargie v. P. Leitch, claim, L 7 8s 9d, for goods supplied. T. Tomlinson v. L. C. Lawrence.—Claim, L 4 9s Bd, on a judgment summons. Mr W. Macgregor appeared for plaintiff; there was no appearance of defendant.—An order was made for the payment of the amount claimed, in default seven days' imprisonment. P. Paxton v. D. Shiels.—Claim, Ll4 10s 6d, on a judgment summons. Mr Wilkinson appeared for the plaintiff.—Defendant, who did not appear, was ordered to pay the amount claimed by instalments of 50s each, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. J. Braithwaite v. R. T. Waters.—Claim, LI 10s, for damage done to his stock through the leakage of a water pipe in the Baldwin Hotel, occupied by defendant. —Mr J. Smith appeared for plaintiff, Mr Solomon for defendant.—Judgment was given for the amount claimed. H. Burgess v. G. Morgan.—Claim, L2 Bs, work done. Mr Catomore for plaintiff; Mr Solomon for defendant. Judgment was given for plaintiff for 18s. CITY POLICE COURT. (Before Messrs G. E. Eliott, J. P. Jones, J. Hutchison, and L. Kemnitz.) Drunkenness.— William Blair, Catherine Brown, David Hulchen, and Thomas Preston, charged with this offence, were discharged ; Alexander Murick, John M'Rae, and Martin Connolly were each fined ss, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment; Richard Daniels and Peter Ritz were each fined 10s, or twenty-four hours'. Assault.— Jeremiah Callahan, for assaulting one Ebenezer Brown, was fined 20s, or four days'. The Railway Regulations. — • George Ouyton was charged with that he did on the 18th inst. travel in a railway carriage without having provided himself with a ticket.— Evidence was taken in this case, after which the Bench fined defendant 20s and costs, in default five days' imprisonment. (Before Messrs J. Logan, J. P. Jones, and L. Kenmitz, J.P.s.) Threatening Language. Elizabeth Turner was charged with using threatening language towards Elizabeth Bishop.—On this case, which was remanded from Friday last, being called on, the police stated that the woman had left the house, but she had failed to appear at the Court as directed.— The Bench ordered the accused to pav costs of Court (30s). (Before E.H. Carew ; Esq., R.M.) PROTECTION ORDER.—Elizabeth Hughes applied for a protection order against her husband, George Henry Hughes, who, she alleged, used personal violence towards herself. — The order was granted, plaintiff to have custody of the children.
