VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING,

The No. 1 Clutha Rifles fired for choice of Colonial representatives this morning, Lieut. Pell in command. Some very big scores were made, that of Lieut. Willocks, the champion, 102 out of a possible 112, never having been excelled here. Only No. 2 Clutha have yet to fire to complete the shooting. The regulations provide for the three highest aggregate scorers being the Colonial representatives for the Dunedin district, the next three highest being extra representatives, who may take part in the competition at Hokitika by paying their own expenses. The ranges in each stage of the firing were 200, 400, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots at each. The ten highest aggregates are:—

Of the extra representatives it is doubtful whether Vol. W. Willocks and the two M'Cartney’s will take part in the Interprovincial meeting. Should the/ decide not to do so the champion will be afforded an opportunity of firing for the retention of the champion belt.
