WAIHOLA ANNUAL REGATTA.
The weather to-day was splendid and favorable for the regatta, a nice Dreeze blowing, but not too strong for the pulling races. The attendance of spectators was also very good. The proceedings commenced early, with the Saiukg Race, for open boats only; 3$ miles. First prize, L 10; second, LB. Adams's Araby Maid 1 Johnston's Comet 2 Four started. Won by two minuteß. Two-oabxd Back, open to all. First, L 5; second, L2. Excelsior Club's Little Nell (Hogg and Welsh) 1 Union Club's Union (Mercer and Burke) ... 2 Four started. Won rather easily. The Canoe race fell through from the want of entries, and the District Four-oared Race fell through also on account of the two boats entered getting damaged. Champioh Foub-oabed Race. Open to all. Course, 8J miles. First prize, L 2 5; second, L 5. United Tradesmen's Young Colonist (Thomp. son, No. 1; Hutchison, No. 2; Provo, No. 3; Dudow, stroke) 1 Excelsior Club's Excelsior (Welsh, No.l: Carey! No. 2; Finch, 3; Hogg, stroke) 2 little Nell 8 Waiho a , a, p* B . * ■..: :;: 5 Union § This was a-fine race, all the boats being well together rounding the last buoy, but Young Colonist, with style, had the advantage, and were pulling splendidly together. They increased their lead coming home, and won completely by six lengths, the Excelsior being second, Little Nell a good third, and the Union nowhere.
