and severalpersona hearing of what she had. seen, rushea to the place, and went into the house through the haok yard. The kitchen door was wide open, and in this apartment a terrible sight met their view. Mrs Carrington was laying upon her back, with her head beneath a flap-table attached to the wall, her feet being stretched out towards the door. Her throat was cut from ear to ear, and although blood was still flowing from the fearful gash, she was quite dead. At right angles to her, with his head towards the table, was her husband, himself in the agonies of death; his‘head being almost severed from his body. He was still alive, lying upon his right side, with his left leg doubled beneath nis body, : and bis hand extended convulsively towards the table, from which he was attempting to remove something. In a few minutes, however, the loss of blood deprived him of his strength, and he lay senseless, but still alive. In a pool of blood that covered Half the room lay a razor, the handle of which was securely tied with string to prevent its shutting up. One of .the women picked np the razor and placed it upon the table, and the police were then sent for. Nothing could possibly be done for him, however, and he died in a few minutes afterwards. A further examination of the room revetdefi the probable surroundings of the commencement of the terrible episode, the actual incidents of which Will never be known. The centre of the room was occupied by a smalT 7 circular table, upon which stood a glass containing a small quantity of gin and yolk of egg, and an infant’s feeding bottle, which also contained a little of the eame'mixtnre. * Beside the table was a chair turned 'half rounds as if some person had been sitting recently upon it. On the hearth-rug, about a yard and a half from the rug, was a large pool of blood, and it would appear that while Mrs Carrington was sitting at the table feeding the child her husband had come by her side and had cut her throat with a razor, the blood spurting on to the floor. She must then nave tottered to the door, still holding the infant in her arms, for‘the child was found there bv the police, its clothes saturated with blood, when they entered the house. As previously stated, she then cried out murder, and fell down beneath the table. The man would- seem to have .ran after her, and, seeing her fall, cut his own throat - in- the manner described. The murder was evidently premeditated with.'? diabolical coolness, the the razor been carefully When he entered the house the weapon must, have been already prepared in his pocket, and must have remainea there during his stay in the house before he went for the spirits. He must - have maintained an outward demeanor of friendship, for had therO' been anything more than usuually peculiar in his manner his wife’s suspicions would have, in all probability, been aroused, she could have placed herself in safety during his temporary absence. The police, on searching the bodies, found no clue to the cause of the horrible occurrence; but in the breast pocket of the man’s coat a second razor was found, showing how the murderer had been to effect his purpose. Carrington was by repute of a peculiar character. Both he and his victim were well advanced in years, he being about fifty-three and she about fiftytwo years of age. The union that led to such fatal results was contracted under peculiar circumstances. The unfortunate woman became a widow 'about six months ago, and from then until he obtained her consent to the marriage Carrington followed her about like a shadow, and it is said that she married him more out of fear than for any other reason. It was fortunate that the child- she was nursing escaped without injury, as a . man in the state he' Was in would not be very careful as to avoiding it, and during the scuffle it must have been in imminent danger. It was known that he was jealous of his wife for some reason or other, but the specific cause was not a matter of. public knowledge.
