THE COUNTY ELECTIONS.
NORTH-EAST VALLEY BIDING. The election of a member to represent the North-east Valley riding in the Waikonaiti County Council, under the Local Elections Act, 1876, took place to-day in the Northeast Valley schoolhouse. Only one nomination had been made, viz., Isaac Green, proposed by William M‘Leod aind James Lambert, and at noon sharp the Returning Officer (Mr James Reid) stepped out on the verandah and announced Mr Isaac Green to be duly elected. The successful candidate briefly thanked the settlers of the riding fertile honor they had conferred upon him ih sparing him the_ expense and annoyance of a contested election, and the business concluded with an expression of thanks to the Returning Officer. The proceedings were of a very quiet nature, only one elector—and he apparently of a philosophic cast-r-being present, except the candidate and presidium officer. *6
WAKABI RIDING, The proceedings at the nomination were very quiet, and the attendance of electors was small, , The only candidate proposed was M- Henry Driver—by Messrs John Biggar and Charles Hay—and consequently the Returning Officer (Mr W. Johnson) declared Mr Driver duly elected.
Anderson’s bay biding. The nominations made were John M'Lean, proposed by James Brown and James Mnir: Thomas Somerville, proposed by Thomas ■Fitzgerald and Thomas Begg; Thomas Bern? proposed by John Casey and Robert Cox; Adam Nichol, proposed by Peter M‘lntyre and Thomas Davey. Five persons were present.
KAIKOBAI RIDING. The nomination, for the Kaikorai district m the Taieri County took place in the Volunteer Diili-ahed to-day, about twenty electors being present. Mr Charles Samson, who-: was returned unopposed, promised to use his utmost endeavors to prevent the toll-bar being removed from its present position at Hillside; and stated that he wab opposed to the total abolition of tolls, as he was of opinion .the revenue derivable therefrom was requisite to iua.inf.ftiV the district roads.

The county elections are exciting little interest, but the County Council here will consist of leading settlers. The feelmgof the district is against bringing the Act into force. . Auckland, December IS.—Forthe? suburban ridings there have been a considerable number of nominations.
