THE FIRE BRIGADES’ DEMONSTRATION.

At a meeting of the Demonstration Committee on Tuesday evening last (Mr W. C. Kirkcaldy in the chair), a letter was read from the Registrar of the University informing the committee that the Council had consented to allow the demonstration ball to be held in the University Hall. Letters were read from several of the Friendly Societies in Dunedin, giving their patronage and consenting to take part in the procession. A letter was read and received from Major Stavely, declining,, on behalf of the Volunteers, to take part in the procession, &c., under arms. Letters and telegrams were received from Dunedin, Ballarat, Tiraaru, and Auckland, entering for all events. It was resolved that the ball should be by invitation only. All arrangements connected with the torchlight procession to be left with the officers of the Brigade, The meeting then adjourned until Tuesday, the 19th inst. The Chairman said he trusted that there would be a full meeting of the committee, and that all the subscription lists would be in ©n that occasion, as it would be the last before the day of competition. Letters were received to-day from Victoria by the secretary of the Demonstration Committee, stating that the Ballarat men leave to-day for Dunedin, bringing their hose reel with them. Their names are—Ex-Lieut. Lawn, Hose Officer Muller, and Messrs Hede, Bignell, Samson, Kerr, Trotman, and Adams. The Timaru team are—Captain Wildie, Messrs A. Mills, A. Thompson, C. Wade, W. Williams, H. Eoscoe, T. Windrow, A. Walker, W. Walker, and J. Winkley. At a meeting of the Fire Brigade held last, evening after practice it was resolved that the route of the torchlight procession should be from the Engine Station to Fagan’s Hotel, Princes street south, back through Manse and. High streets, into Princes street, thence to Howe street, through into Great King street to Hanover street, into George street, and back to the station; to start from the station at nine o’clock sharp. The Artillery and Drum and Fife Bands have consented to play during the procession. It was resolved that the officers of the brigade should meet the Ballarat team at Port Chalmers upon arrival. The following were elected honorary members Mrs Hans, Mrs Milligan, and Messrs Jacobs and Carr.
